I used the last strength in me to write this post. Before the holidays I promised I was going to do a lot of upskilling, reading, learning, and writing but none of that is happening and I really feel guilty for doing nothing productive; however, I realize it's the holidays and I am doing what I should be doing - REST. As much as we would want to be productive at any given opportunity we find ourselves, it is important to note that there is no pride in suffering from burnout and stress. So, if you find yourself feeling bad for not doing anything during this festive season, forgive yourself and give your body what it really needs - to rest.
2021 has been a lot of things to a lot of people, for me it was scary and crazy, I had lots of self-doubts and I felt unaccomplished but things took a beautiful turn for me and I am so thankful for that.
January: It was raining rejection mails, at some point, I stopped keeping count because some of these companies never got back to me but I was still hopeful.
February: I used to be scared of posting my designs because of negative criticisms but I made up my mind to be more intentional with them and post regardless. I also joined a good living church and my spiritual life has improved since then.
March: I made my first income as a designer and also got the opportunity to become a co-founder of a product that is still in production and will be launching very soon so watch out for this space. I never got to celebrate my birthday like I planned to, hopefully, I will do that next year.
April to July: Was mostly about getting better in design, working on my design portfolio, applying for jobs, making wonderful friends, giving and receiving love.
August: I got my first full-time remote job. Working with my colleagues has been a wonderful experience, and I really enjoy the work culture.
September to November: Was about getting used to my new job, working on projects from different industries, made new and meaningful acquaintances.
December: I got to meet my colleagues at work for the first time at our end of the year hangout which was very exciting. I also got to meet my fellow co-founders in person, I had a great time with them. The year ended most beautifully and I couldn’t ask for a better experience, to be honest.
For next year, I’ve decided not to put myself under the immense pressure of achieving numerous goals so I have decided to just stick with getting better at my career and making better financial decisions and investments.
I’m really glad that I am sharing this part of my life with you. If you had an unproductive year, I promise you that next year will be better and you will do more with your time and skills, and for those who had a great year; here is to more wins next year.
See you all on the other side of happiness and fulfillment. Cheers 🥂
