Understanding and Building Your Self-Worth

A Happy and Confident Black Woman

Being aware of your value or worth as a person is the most important aspect of your life. Most people feel devalued  probably from parents, friends or lovers who treated them poorly, unfairly or criticized them unnecessarily.

The moment you begin to accept the way people treat you, you begin to see yourself less and devalued. We should know our value and not accept being treated less than we deserve in other words you deserve to be treated the way you treat others. In our quest to find love and attention from friends or lovers we ending up acting desperate and needy not knowing that love will come to you when you learn to love yourself first which is the most important relationship with oneself.

When you love yourself you take pride in yourself and what you have to offer. Now that we have understood what self worth is lets see how we can build it.

BUILDING YOUR SELF-WORTH
  1. Avoid criticizing or bringing yourself down.
  2. Always write down the things you love about yourself.
  3. Everyone has a bad side, find out what it is and work on it.
  4. Stop blaming and beating yourself up about past mistakes.
  5. Learn to be resilient. Resilient people are able to endure the most difficult situations without cracking or falling apart.
  6. Stop trying to please people all the time by displeasing yourself, say Yes to the things you can do and No to the things you can’t.
  7. Live in the present and forget the past which is gone but bear in mind the lessons it taught you.
  8. Surround yourself with positive people who have positive things to offer.
  9. Your only competition is yourself not with others.
  10. Take up something new to learn, stick with it and derive joy in it.
  11. Always be honest with yourself and others.
  12. Learn to say “please and thank you”, there is no harm in asking for help or rendering one.
  13. Take care of your body in and out, dress smart and look good.
  14. Respect yourself and your body and be respected, don’t give out your body carelessly to anybody because you think your body will make them love you.

The most delightful and compelling relationship you can have is the one you have with yourself, know your value or self worth and don't allow people treat you less than you deserve. Change for yourself and not for others.

A New Chapter Of My Life

It's the first day of May and I want to say that I am really grateful about how good 2018 has been to me so far, being alive, my friends, the health of my family and I want to also use this opportunity to wish you all a very successful month full of accomplishments. 🍾

So y'all...... I got a new job with a popular radio station as a music editor and I'm really ecstatic. It's been a different experience, changing my environment, having the opportunity to meet new, smart people and celebrities, emphasis on "celebrities" this in particular has been wonderfuuuuul. 😎

It's one thing to get a job and its another to get a job you love! Me, I got both and everyday I am thankful to God for such grace and favour, it wasn't easy, I cried myself to sleep and went on my knees asking what I wasn't doing right and why my friends were getting jobs before me. Thank God it's over now and I look forward to making the most of this experience and milk every oppor…

Self Esteem and Learning to Love my Nose

There was little I loved about myself while growing up. I was 16 when I noticed I was very skinny, had a big nose and battling with bad acne and pimples. I was assured it was puberty hence the acne but I was worried about the nose; I hated it for a long time, it was big, flat and out of shape or so I thought. Back in secondary school I would pinch my nose for a long time, hopefully it would have a better shape. I had beautiful friends in school back then and I would spend most of my time pointing out what face feature I liked and wished I had.

During my university days, pouting was my saving grace. I would either pout or give a very big smile just to make my nose look smaller. I relied on people to give me a good validation about my looks and pictures which is really sad as I think about it now. I really feel sorry that we live in a world where there is a definition of a woman's beauty. For three years I have learnt to love my big nose, not because I was forced to or didn't h…
